Canadian officials gathered in Windsor, Ontario, on Friday, to celebrate the opening of an international bridge between Canada and Detroit, a ceremony that had been delayed for six months thanks to interference from the American president.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens, who has been an outspoken critic of Trump’s delays of the bridge opening, alluded to the Orange Ass and the possibility of him getting his Orange Ass checked by Canadian hockey great Gordie Howe, who played for the Detroit Red Wings.
“I genuinely am hopeful that at some point in the future, we could close this bridge for a couple hours and have the proper celebration that it deserves,” Mr. Dilkens said. “It would have to be at a time when the relationship’s a little stronger than it is today.”
Ontario Premier Doug Ford called the bridge “an incredible symbol of the potential and opportunities that await workers and families on both sides of the Detroit River.”
Ford, notoriously critical of Trump, did not throw elbows up at the Orange Ass, but focused on shared priorities between the US and Canada, and a good relationship between their citizens.
“Just look at the relationship we enjoy with our friends on the other side of this bridge in Michigan. And I want to emphasize: I know Canadians love Americans, and I know Americans love Canadians, and that bond will last for another over 200 years,” the premier said.
