Senate Republicans advance Todd Blanche nomination after ‘anti-weaponization’ fund holdup

Blanche’s nomination had been held up over concerns from GOP Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis, but the parties reached a deal to end the standoff.

Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday advanced Todd Blanche’s attorney general nomination after it had been delayed over concerns from two GOP members on the panel.

Blanche’s path to confirmation had been on hold after Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina — both of whom are leaving Congress in January — raised concerns about the “anti-weaponization” fund that the Trump administration tried to establish in May to give taxpayer-funded payments to Trump allies, potentially including Jan. 6 rioters the president pardoned on his first day back in office.

Stephanie (On the Rocks) Grisham files temporary restraining order against Rep. Max Miller

The former White House press secretary dated the Ohio Republican in 2019 and 2020. Miller has recently come under scrutiny over domestic violence allegations made by his ex-wife.

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham filed a temporary restraining order against Rep. Max Miller, R-Ohio, her attorney announced Monday.

Grisham’s restraining order comes as Miller, 37, faces mounting calls to resign in light of allegations made by his ex-wife Emily Moreno — daughter of Sen. Bernie Moreno, R-Ohio — that the congressman physically abused her and their 2-year-old daughter. Miller has denied the allegations, which were made in court filings as part of the former couple’s ongoing custody dispute.

It was unclear in the immediate aftermath of that announcement why the restraining order is being filed at this time.

Grisham and Miller, who dated in 2019 and 2020, have been involved in a separate legal battle, after Grisham published a 2021 op-ed in the Washington Post describing an abusive relationship with her boyfriend who was, at the time, a White House staffer. While Grisham did not disclose the name of her boyfriend, Miller sued her for defamation hours after the op-ed was published and denied any allegations of abuse.

Moreno on Max Miller: "My daughter lives in constant fear of this man … you can't fathom what that makes me feel like when the dad's number one job is to protect your kids… if there's any minimum standard for being an elected official, he feels to meet it. I don't care about the politics at all"

Bessent: "We've seen President Trump last week threaten what would have been the largest military campaign since World War 2 against the Iranians, and now because of that we are in talks with the Iranians. I think there's a chance we may have a deal today or tomorrow to open the strait."

US has used ‘virtually all’ of its long-range precision missiles during Iran war, sources say

  • US has used ‘virtually all’ PrSM and ATACM munitions, two sources say
  • US also burned through a little less than half its global Tomahawk supply, one source says
  • Some officials worry the low stockpiles will affect US readiness should another conflict break out

NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, Aug 4 (Reuters) – The U.S. Army has used up much of its stockpile of highly accurate long-range missiles during its five-month war with Iran, according to three people familiar with the data, raising concerns about the military’s readiness for future conflicts.

The missiles are principally the Army’s surface-to-surface weapons, known as Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) and Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM). The U.S. has used “virtually all” of these weapons, according to ‌two of the sources.
