Trump’s Department of Justice filed a lawsuit on Thursday that would seek to block certification of the Senate race winner in Alaska — but only if the incumbent Republican, Dan S. Sullivan, were to lose.
Filed in federal court in Alaska, the DOJ wants the state to block certifying Democratic candidate Rep. Mary Peltola in the event she were to win with another candidate named Daniel J. Sullivan, of an undesignated party, remaining on the ballot.
The Trump administration is insistent that the Democrats are funding the Daniel J. Sullivan campaign to confuse Alaska voters. Democrats have long suspected that Trump would find ways to block Democratic wins as he tried to do in January 2021.
The lawsuit was signed by Associate U.S. Attorney General Stanley Woodward, who represented Trump allies and Jan. 6 defendants.
CHEATER says Daniel J. Sullivan’s presence on the ballot is cheating.
Cheater-in-Chief claims the non-incumbent Sullivan is a Democratic plant.
“We are looking at powerful legal options to remove the fraudulent Daniel J. Sullivan Jr. from the Ballot, and holding the Democrats accountable for their Election Interference, in the pursuit of Justice and Fairness,” the president wrote on Wednesday.
Alaska’s Supreme Court in June affirmed a lower court’s decision that protected the candidate’s right to remain on the ballot, and ranked choice voting system clearly differentiates the two Sullivans with one being marked as the Republican incumbent, and the other without a party affiliation at all.
