Putin Gets Abbreviated Parade in Exchange for Prisoner Swap

A brief military parade was held in Moscow’s Red Square on Saturday, with Ukraine agreeing to a 3-day ceasefire in exchange for 1,000 prisoners of war released by each side.

Putin’s military parade featured no rolling tanks or ballistic missile carriers, as Russia scaled back their display in celebration of the Soviet Union army’s role in the defeat of Nazi Germany.

On Friday, President Zelensky gave assurances by decree that there would be no Ukrainian strikes on the event, noting that Moscow’s Red Square “is less important to us than the lives of Ukrainian prisoners who can be brought home.” Zelensky mentioned there were several requests for restraint in the negotiations for the brief ceasefire, which Donald Trump was taking credit for.

Zelensky had earlier said that Moscow was afraid of Ukrainian drones buzzing overhead, while Russian officials interpreted his words as a threat.

North Korean troops added to the display on Saturday as a sign of a growing partnership.
