Facing protests of “Impeach Slotkin, Keep Trump,” Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich) told a noisy crowd on Monday that she will vote for impeachment.
Slotkin captured her seat in 2018 in a Republican-leaning district in southeastern Michigan, a district that carried Trump by 7 percentaage points. Slotkin, a former CIA and Department of Defense official, is one of 7 freshman representatives with national security backgrounds.
An audience of about 500 at the town hall was mostly supportive, but pro-Trump chants persisted chanting and shouting for nearly an hour as she explained her decision in detail.
Slotkin told reporters after the town hall she was not concerned about predictions she would pay for the decision at the ballot box in 2020.
“There just have to be some decisions that are beyond the political calculus,” Slotkin said.
