Trump Asks for a Draft Proposal for Sanctions Relief for Russia

The White House continues to capitulate to Russia.

Trump has now asked the state and treasury departments to draft a list of options for sanctions relief for Russia.

There is no clarity on what Trump seeks in return for sanctions relief, as the misadministration seeks to improve “diplomatic and economic relations” with the war criminal Putin.

Officials are now drawing up a proposal for lifting sanctions on select entities and individuals, including some Russian oligarchs.

Last year the Kremlin called relations with the Biden Administration “below zero” as Biden backed Ukraine and upped sanctions against Russia in 2022.

In January Trump talked tough and threatened Putin with more sanctions if he was unwilling to negotiate a peace deal, but Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said Russia could win economic relief depending on how they negotiate an end to the war.

Trump could issue an executive order to begin the process of easing some Russian sanctions, but he would also need to seek congressional approval to lift measures on certain entities.

Russia’s economy is weak and in desperate need of sanctions relief, as the Kremlin has stated they are open to a minerals deal with the U.S., saying they have lots of rare earth minerals to develop.
