George Floyd’s autopsy found he died from asphyxia caused by forceful pressure

An independent autopsy conducted by doctors hired by the George Floyd family’s legal team found he died from asphyxia due to sustained forceful pressure.

Attorney Ben Crump and co-counsel Antonio Romanucci, who are representing the family of George Floyd,  announced the findings of the independent autopsy Monday afternoon.

Dr. Michael Baden and Dr. Allecia Wilson were hired by the Floyd family’s legal team to conduct the independent autopsy. They say the sustained pressure on George Floyd’s neck impeded blood flow to the brain while weight on his back impeded his ability to breathe. They ruled the manner of death as homicide.

KSTP:

The private exam conducted by former New York City Medical Examiner Michael Baden found Floyd died from “asphyxia due to the neck and back compression that led to a lack of blood flow to the brain,” the family’s legal team announced Monday.

“George died because he needed a breath. He needed a breath of air,” family lawyer Benjamin Crump said. “For George Floyd, the ambulance was his hearse.”

Floyd, 46, died May 25 at the hands of a white Minneapolis Police officer who knelt on his neck for more than eight minutes amid an arrest.
