When I started this blog post this morning I started with the concept of The king is dead, long live the king! with yesterday’s departure of the Disqus channels. Somehow however that didn’t feel right. While the channels are gone, Disqus is still here and so are all of us. Instead having that bittersweet feeling and dwelling on the past I wanted another sentiment to prevail.
Then it struck me. Mabuhay! It had to be mabuhay. Which is a Filipino greeting. It has various meanings among others “long live”, “may you live”, “cheers”, “welcome”, and “hurrah”. It encapsulated the feeling I wanted to share, celebrating the place that strives to become one of my and your new online homes.
A new home that by the way accidentally got an Extreme Makeover: Site Edition. The new style for the site was actually planned for the 1st of September to celebrate the transition from Disqus Channels to our new site. Unfortunately however, while staging the new changes something went wrong and it accidentally got published. Reverting would have been pointless as the surprise had already been exposed. Live and learn as I always say — and I can assure you there will be a lot of living around here.
Style updates, bug and stability fixes aside there is now a fancy new stock ticker at the top of the home page of the site (thanks for the great suggestion Lord Bokeh). This scrolling ticker shows NYSE notated stock — ordered by industry sector — that are in danger due to the ongoing trade war between the US and China the rest of the world, as well as the DJI and S&P.
Additionally you may have noticed the new poll section showing up on the right hand panel of the site, which will run weekly polls on a wide range of subjects. If you have an idea for an interesting poll please let us know via our contact page.
To sum up, we have been making quite a few changes to the site since we started four weeks ago. How do you feel about these changes, what would you like to see added or removed even? Please let us know in the comments!
And with that quick update I will all leave you and News Views a hearty Mabuhay!
