Joe Biden said at a Miami town hall on Monday he would make Roe v Wade “the law of the land” in the event of SCOTUS overturning women’s reproductive rights.
This morning the infected President took to Twitter to make accusations about what Biden said.
Trump has regularly targeted Democrats over their stances on abortion, including a number of exaggerated attacks on Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D), who Trump said last month “is in favor of executing babies after birth.”
From The Hill.
While Trump bragged that he would be the president to see Roe v. Wade overturned, he has played coy about the appointment of Amy Coney Barrett, particularly at the first presidential debate when Biden said the ruling protecting women’s reproductive rights was at stake.
“Why is it on the ballot? Why is it on the ballot?” Trump demanded. “It’s not on the ballot. … There’s nothing happening there.”
Trump is trying to downplay the hot-button issue with women voters who support women’s rights, saying that he never discussed Amy Coney Barrett’s views on abortion with her.
The desire to gloss over the subject reflects an acknowledgment that the issue is a potentially potent motivator for the Democratic base. Recent polls show that a majority of voters oppose overturning Roe.
The White House is afraid to make the court appointment a central issue, highlighting the possibility of overturning not only Roe v Wade but the Affordable Care Act. Trump allies fear Trump could win the nomination fight, but lose the election battle.
They’re hoping that Democrats will go too far in attacking Barrett’s faith and her family, energizing conservatives and turning off those in the middle.
