At News Views, we’re always trying something new to get y’all out here talking. This week, I’m presenting an issue that’s happened before but it’s once again all over the news. Currently, the United States expects “more individuals on the southwest border than we have in the last 20 years,” according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Republicans have already exploited and hope to capitalize off of the surge at the border. If they can paint the Biden Administration as ‘pro-illegal immigration,’ they can use this untrue claim to take back both the House and Senate.
“The Republicans will turn around and use this for a political weapon against Democrats — that we’re weak on the border, we’re not doing enough, we’re letting everybody in,” Rep. Henry Cuellar said in an interview. “I’ve been warning the party and the administration: Don’t let this get out of hand, because all you’re going to do is you’re going to give Republicans an issue.”
Border arrests and detentions during the final months of the Trump presidency rose to some of the highest levels in a decade, but illegal crossings have skyrocketed since Biden took office. In February, detentions topped 100,000, a 28 percent increase from the previous month, and March is on pace for an even larger surge, with more than 4,000 border apprehensions each day, according to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection figures.

Of course and as usual, the GOP has NO plan on how to handle the crisis but they do have an ad on Twitter filled with their usual fear mongering, conflation, and lies.
The United States has always been the place to go to escape persecution, poverty, disease, etc…That’s what brought my family here: escaping disease and poverty. But currently, we have a huge case of the poverty, high unemployment, AND disease. Things are getting better but it’s going to take some time to get back to what we once had and considered normal.
So, why would people want to come here now?
