It’s 5:00 Somewhere

So it’s the 4th of July weekend. Woot-woot! Time to celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, signed 245 years ago! We owe our thanks to those radical revolutionaries and all of their hostility toward Great Britain for delivering us to the Land of the Free.

Well, we can at least thank democracy, as fragile as it stands today, for stopping the movement of the Trump administration, whose proposed “1776 Report” was to refute any teachings on systemic racism and the effects of slavery in America’s history.

Trump said at the close of his reign of terror that the “crusade against American history is toxic propaganda, ideological poison, that, if not removed, will dissolve the civic bonds that tie us together, will destroy our country.” It was intended as a rebuke of the 1619 Project and critical race theory, and an assault on our country as we’ve known it.

So far, we, and our country, have survived — even while our knuckles have turned white at times.

While all around us there are Grand Old Flags being misused and patriotism is being misinterpreted, we can take this moment to give thanks that America is still standing even while some of America is kneeling. We have that right thanks to our forefathers and all of those who have fought for where we are today… and to those of us who will continue to fight for where we go from here.

It’s 5:00 somewhere and I hope you can raise your glass to this anthem. Stand, kneel, raise your fist — but definitely raise a glass……..

Cheers!

Who will be Trump' running mate?
