President Biden was greeted by a clear message on his motorcade ride to a Howell, Michigan, event on Tuesday to promote his infrastructure plan.
A line of protesters gathered with signs claiming “Trump Won” and “F*ck Biden” along M-59, in a town midway between Detroit and the state’s Capitol in Lansing. Livingston County went for Trump by 23 points in 2020 when Biden won the state by 154,000 votes.
U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin accompanied the President and sat next to him in the vehicle as he pointed out the signs along the way. Slotkin said she was embarrassed.
“He said, ‘aren’t we next to a school?’” Slotkin said. “I pointed out the school to him and, he said ‘I guess I’m still surprised when people, even if they don’t like me, are willing to be that profane around children.’”
An elementary school is a block away from the route the President was on.
“It’s just a sad moment when someone can stand blocks from a school with a sign using that kind of profanity,” Slotkin said.
Slotkin said she approved of Biden making his case in places he is unpopular.
“You gotta get out into the world,” she said. “It doesn’t mean that everybody loves you.”
Biden responded to reporters about the pro-Trump crowd, “Makes me smile. I get more pumped up.”
The protest was organized by the Livingston County Republican Party and the Moms For Liberty.
