The Biden administration on Wednesday sent a letter to Herschel Walker and Dr. Mehmet Oz asking for their resignation from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition.
A White House official said it was against the administration’s policy to allow federal candidates to serve on honorary presidential boards. The Hatch Act states that special government appointees “may not be candidates in partisan elections” while conducting official government business. Both Oz and Walker are Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate.
Also on Wednesday, the White House announced the appointment of WNBA star Elena Delle Donne and chef and humanitarian José Andrés as co-chairs of the council.
