Talko Tuesday: May 24, 2022

Good morning, News Viewers and Happy Tuesday. We are going to be hot–blazing hot, as in 100 degrees for the first time this year hot, and it begins today. So, the calendar might not say it but the National Weather Service sure does: It’s Summertime! Oh, and…it’s a long weekend, Memorial Day weekend, to be exact.

Does anyone have any plans for the long weekend?

We were going to do something, never made a solid plan, but since we went out of town last weekend, I think we’re staying in. I’ve been involved in a few mosaic projects, garden stepping stones, which turned out well. But, I think I’m going to start a larger and more in depth mosaic project towards the latter part of the week.

Everytime one of my kids moved out (only to return at some point, thereafter), one of them would leave behind a few pieces of furniture that I guess, I was supposed to dispose of or do something with. I can put anything in my back alley with a “Free” sign on it and it will be gone by the end of the day. But when my eldest son moved out several years ago (he’s back, but that’s a different story), he left behind a TV stand my mom gave him that is actually a chest. I almost threw it out several years ago but, it has come in handy.

I used it as my desk when we all got sent home because of COVID-19. Now, it has several plants on it and a bunch junk inside it….not junk junk but stuff. So, I think I’m going to stain it and mosaic the top of it and get rid of some of the junk inside of it that I don’t use and probably don’t even realize I have.

I have problems with ‘purging’ stuff, which really drives Mr. G insane, although he has issues with purging stuff as well; he just likes to focus on my inability and reluctance to purge stuff. It never fails: I get rid of something then, I wish I didn’t because I eventually find a use for it, after the fact, and want to kick myself for tossing said item. It never fails, seriously.

I had planned to re-do the junk/plant chest last fall but that never happened. So, I think when it cools down later this week, I will start on it. Thankfully, it’s on wheels so I can wheel its ass out my backdoor and get to work on it. My husband set up my electric sander for me so, I think I’m good to go. I’m just trying to figure out what color I want to do stain it. It’s not an antique so, I have no issue painting or staining it. It’s a light wood now but everything else in my house is dark wood. I have several antiques and my more this century furniture is of darker wood to blend in with the antiques. This junk/plant chest sticks out like a sore thumb. I’m kind of thinking an olive or sage green for some color and well…plants!

I just feel for my neighbors because….I’ve been breaking thrift store plates and other forms of crockery lately for my mosaic projects. The young man that lives next door to me is probably thinking, “WTF?! I move into what is supposed to be a nice, quiet neighborhood and some crazy lady next to me is outside breaking freaking plates!”

Hey, I’m half Greek; that’s what we do, break plates.

I have tile nippers but a hammer with plates in a plastic bag does the trick quite well. I use the nippers for finer cuts but limit using them because I just don’t have the strength.

So, tell me what’s going on in your world; I would love to hear about it.

Who will be Trump' running mate?
