Marc Short, former chief of staff to Mike Pence, along with Pence attorney Greg Jacob testified to a federal grand jury in Washington investigating the attack of the Capitol on January 6.
Short and Jacob are the highest ranking former Trump officials known to have been subpoenaed and provide testimony in the widening criminal inquiry into the events leading up to January 6.
Both Short and Jacob have provided testimony to the House select committee in a parallel investigation.
Short and Jacob were present in the Oval Office for a meeting on Jan. 4, 2021, at which Trump had John Eastman try to persuade Pence that he could delay or block congressional certification of Trump’s Electoral College defeat.
Eastman’s plan relied on Pence being willing to accept disputes over the validity of several states’ electors whose votes for Biden had already been certified.
“Stop the Steal” organizer Ali Alexander is the only other pro-Trump figure known to have testified before the federal grand jury.
