It’s been a stunning week of realization that guns won’t take out a tornado and blaming won’t effect a flood or a storm surge, politics won’t fix that dead power grid and snarky lies and BS won’t keep anyone dry, fed and clothed.

Climate disasters tend to put it all in perspective, right? Here we are, not quite as powerful, not quite as in control as we thought. All kinds of thanking and praying to any higher power may make us feel better, but it’s facing truth and listening to science that will give us more time on the planet.

Preaching to the choir, I know, but something about massive events like Hurricane Ian brings on the preachy — and why not, this is an open forum, all topics, all the time, with the ”no assholes” rule as our guiding star. …
