Arkansas AG’s Ban on Gender-Affirming Care Dismantled by Jon Stewart

Jon Stewart interviewed Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge and gave her the opportunity to explain the argument for a ban on gender-affirming care for minors.

Toward the end of the interview, Rutledge claimed that she wasn’t prepared for a Supreme Court argument from Stewart.

Arkansas became one of the first states to ban gender-affirming care for transgender youth, overriding the guidelines and recommendations of the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics.

When Stewart asked Rutledge to identify what experts were cited for the legislative ban, she could not name a medical organization or doctor off the top of her head, but could provide the “legislative history” for Stewart.

“Well, we have all of those in our briefs, and I apologize that I wasn’t prepared to have a supreme Court Argument today in front of you,” said Rutledge.
