Texas Woman ‘Accidentally’ Shot Her Mom’s Head While Showing Her the Gun Was Not Loaded

IT’S THE GUNS

The mother told responders that her daughter, Crystal Lissette Mar arrived home at about 3 a.m. asking if she could borrow her phone because she had forgotten hers. Mar wanted to text her friend to bring her the phone back. She then noticed that Mar had a weapon in her purse, authorities said.

The mother told Mar that she did not want the weapon in her house and told her to put it away. She said that Mar was struggling to remove the magazine out. When Mar was able to, the mother heard a “loud pop.”

The mother then noticed she had been shot and called 911. Mar took off running prior to police’s arrival. Responding officers located her in the intersection of Alta Vista and Cypress drives. She was found in possession of the gun after a pat down, the affidavit states.

Mar told investigators at the station that she was “not very familiar” with using handguns and only removed the magazine to “show her mother there were no bullets” inside the gun, the Morning Times reported. Once the magazine was removed, Mar reportedly “pressed the trigger,” and the gun fired one round.

“She removed the magazine and accidentally pressed the trigger,” police wrote in the affidavit. “She then heard a loud pop and noticed her mother had been shot. Crystal [Mar] stated she called 911 and her mother told her to leave.
