DATELINE: OMAHA, NE. — A funeral home worker responsible for transporting dead bodies in a Nebraska county is suspected of having an intimate encounter with a life-sized sex doll he found in the apartment of a deceased person, according to a felony criminal complaint.
Investigators say Ryan Smith, 41, and a colleague were dispatched last week to a home in Omaha to collect the body of an individual who died there. A life-size sex doll was inside the residence at the Rock Creek Apartments complex.
Police allege that Smith subsequently called the property manager and claimed that the local sheriff had asked him to collect the sex doll for evidentiary purposes, for it to be swabbed for “a biopsy” by the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office, according to the outlet.
The request was denied, but according to a statement from a sheriff’s investigator, the manager investigating noises at the residence found him there with the deadbolt locked and the chain secured — with his clothing disheveled.
The documents state that Smith left, saying he would return with a warrant for the doll. That’s when the manager contacted police, worried that he might attempt to break in and steal property from the residence.
Investigators returned to the scene, which had been photographed when the scene was initially processed, and noted that items, including a survival kit, had been moved. The Douglas County Crime Lab was called into process the scene, collecting fingerprints from the kit, in particular. Investigators were also planning to request DNA samples from the doll.
Smith was arrested and faces charges of burglary, criminal trespassing and tampering with physical evidence, according to the outlet.
The owner of the company Smith worked for said Smith was not on the clock during the alleged incident and had since been fired, according to WOWT.
