Because there are no other and more pressing issues that Floridians face, Governor DeFascist stated during a speech about is $114.4 billion state budget recommendations for 2024-25, he would potentially “spend up to $1 million in taxpayer dollars to potentially sue over the undefeated Florida State University’s football team not making the playoffs.”
Forget the problems Floridians face with property insurance, rising sea levels, substance abuse, and whatever else ills the state, Governor DeFascist will focus on some conspiracy theory spinning in his head as to why “Florida State University[‘s] football team to be ranked fifth in the nation and, consequently, ineligible to participate in the College Football Playoff games.”
"What we've decided to do is set aside a million dollars for any litigation expenses that may become as a result of this really, really poor decision by the College Football Playoff to exclude an undefeated team who won a Power Five conference championship," DeSantis said. He said, living in Tallahassee, his children were "not happy" at the committee's decision Sunday. "It's unfortunate that we have to even do that, but we're going to put aside a million dollars and let the chips fall where they may on that," DeSantis continued. "To me, it's like, if you win and you're undefeated — that should mean something. That should really be significant," DeSantis said. "And they're telling us that it doesn't, that other factors matter more. That's just not how I would approach it."
After the Seminoles were snubbed by the College Football Playoff selection committee, DeSantis suggested that taxpayers could help fund some sort of resolution, though he noted that may not be possible.
During a Monday appearance on the “Ingraham Angle,” Ron DeSantis said he wasn’t sure what could be done, but in the event legal action was possible to get “recourse,” he said the state could provide $1 million to help the cause.
“Florida State earned that spot. Now, people have said, is there anything you can do? They’re actually looking to see if there’s anything they can do. I don’t know if there is any recourse, but I have set aside a million dollars in case there ever is any litigation. I’m not saying that there’s going to be. They are looking at it. I don’t think that this has spoken well for college football. And we’ll see,” DeSantis said during the Fox News hit.
DeSantis noted that FSU was an “undefeated conference champion” of the Atlantic Coast Conference, and “earned that spot.”
