TFG’s Really Awful Monday: Happy Don Poorleone Day!

The Family Full of Fredos:

Today is the final day for the adjudicated sexual assaulter/rapist/fraudster to put up nearly half a billion dollars for the multimillion-dollar civil fraud judgment against him.

Trump personally owes over $454 million stemming from the ruling made by Judge Arthur Engoron back in February. The figure balloons up to $463.9 million when including the money owed from his sons, Eric and Donald Jr., the Trump Organization and the interest that was accrued as of the date of the ruling.

So, what happens if the fraudster cannot put up the money?

The attorney general, Letitia James, who brought the case accusing the former president of fraudulently inflating his net worth, has the power to freeze many of his bank accounts and begin the long, complicated process of seizing some of his properties.

Under New York law, Ms. James could have enforced the $454 million judgment once it became final last month, but she provided Mr. Trump a 30-day grace period that expires on Monday. Although Ms. James could move to collect at any moment, she is not expected to take any aggressive action Monday.

Ms James has said that her office is prepared to seize the former president’s assets if necessary to settle the judgment against him. State attorneys have filed the Manhattan court judgment in Westchester, the suburban New York county that is home to Trump National Golf Club and his Seven Springs estate, signalling a first move to do so.

Perhaps understandably, this massive hit to his wealth and image appears to have been getting to the 2024 Republican presidential candidate, currently in the midst of his campaign to return to the White House.

On Sunday, “Don Poorleone” was trending on social media platform X.

The Orange Ass will also be in a New York criminal courtroom for a pre-trial hearing in his hush money criminal case.

The hearing is to discuss discovery issues that led to the delay of Trump’s New York criminal trial until at least April. Trump’s lawyers have asked to further delay or dismiss the case. As he entered the hearing, Trump called the case a “hoax.”

Who will be Trump' running mate?
