“There is No Planet B”: Earth Day, April 22, 2024

“I like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete. It’s so fuckin’ heroic.”
― George Carlin

Welcome to our open forum about Earth day, and find information on this year’s Earth Day here at EarthDay.Org. What do you see that alarms, affects, inspires, or motivates you to play our part in keeping the earth turning? This year’s focus is plastics. . . .

“It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.” Carl Sagan, SkyImageLab

For Earth Day, April 22, 2024, President Biden reiterates goals for the planet. “Building on his climate, clean energy, and environmental justice agenda, President Biden will travel today to Prince William Forest Park in Triangle, Virginia, to celebrate Earth Day 2024, and highlight his Administration’s unprecedented progress in tackling the climate crisis, cutting costs for everyday Americans, and creating good-paying jobs.” WhiteHouse.gov

It’s the great, big, broad land ’way up yonder,
It’s the forests where silence has lease;
It’s the beauty that thrills me with wonder,
It’s the stillness that fills me with peace.”
― Robert W. Service, The Spell of the Yukon

WhiteHouse.Gov continues: “Nearly a century after FDR established the Civilian Conservation Corps, President Biden will announce today that Americans can now apply to join the American Climate Corps through a newly launched website, ClimateCorps.gov. The website will feature nearly 2,000 positions located across 36 states, DC, and Puerto Rico.

These positions are hosted by hundreds of organizations advancing clean energy, conservation, and climate resilience. The website, which is launching in its beta form, will be regularly updated with new American Climate Corps positions. Its goal is to make it easy for any American to find work tackling the climate crisis while gaining the skills necessary for the clean energy and climate resilience workforce of the future. The first class of the American Climate Corps will be deployed to communities across the country in June 2024.”

Global warming is resulting in unusual animal behavior this Earth Day as warming oceans, changing currents, changing weather patterns, the over abundance of toxic materials which affect the food chain cause animals to move habitats, change behavior patterns and eat foods they don’t normally eat.
