‘A good man’: George Floyd’s brother supports Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for VP
"What I took from him was a good man," George Floyd's brother, Philonise Floyd, said in a phone interview with ABC News. "You don't meet a lot of people like him."
Floyd praised Walz’s handling of his brother’s murder and pushed back on criticisms that the governor did not do enough in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
GOP critics say Tim Walz ‘let Minnesota burn’ in 2020 protests. Here’s what happened
Tim Walz joining the Democratic Party’s presidential ticket has prompted renewed scrutiny of how the Minnesota governor handled the protests following George Floyd’s death.
Opponents of the pick by Vice President Kamala Harris wasted no time bringing up the demonstrations that began in Walz’s state and grew increasingly violent during the week that followed Floyd’s killing at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer in 2020.
Four years later, the images of Minneapolis in May 2020 remain striking. Flames bursting from the city’s 3rd Precinct police headquarters and raging inside a looted AutoZone store. A protester illuminated by fire carrying an upside-down U.S. flag, a sign of distress, down a burning street.

Harris says she supports eliminating federal taxes on tips
A Harris campaign official said if elected, she would work with Congress on the proposed policy, which would require legislation.
Vice President Kamala Harris on Saturday pledged to eliminate taxes on tipped wages for service workers, matching a proposal from former President Donald Trump.
During a rally in Las Vegas she held alongside her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris praised the work of the Culinary Workers Union, which endorsed her on Friday, and vowed to continue to support policies that would benefit the union’s workers.
“When I am president, we will continue our fight for working families of America, including to raise the minimum wage, and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers,” Harris said.

Trump campaign says it was hacked by Iranian group
The news from the campaign comes one day after Microsoft reported that an Iranian group “sent a spear phishing email in June to … a presidential campaign.”
Former President Donald Trump’s campaign on Saturday said that it had been hacked by an Iranian group in June, “which coincides with the close timing of President Trump’s selection of a Vice Presidential nominee,” Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for the Trump campaign, told NBC News.
The hack was first reported by Politico, and NBC News has not independently verified that the hack took place or where it originated. Politico said it began receiving emails from an anonymous account sharing internal documents from the Trump campaign in July.
