On Monday Donald Trump gave Mike Johnson a full-throated endorsement for Speaker of the House ahead of the bigly House vote on Friday.
Trump was bigly mad that the debt ceiling wasn’t handled under the Biden administration, but needs a Speaker elected in order to certify the election results.
“He can bury [Johnson] whenever he wants,” one person close to Trump told Semafor. “Get through Jan. 20, get rolling on the border, rack up some wins, and then use the bully pulpit in full force from there on out.”
Some House MAGAts have given warning that they are not committed to voting for Johnson, and Thomas Massie (MAGAt-Ky) has said Trump’s endorsement doesn’t change his mind.
Johnson can only lose one Republican vote to still win the Speakership with the narrow margin in the House.
Johnson allies say that there are six or seven Republicans who have doubts about voting for Johnson. Among them is Victoria Spartz (MAGAt- IN) with a list of demands.
