Why some are accusing Trump of manipulating stock markets

Marjorie Taylor Greene Scooped Up Tanking Stocks — and Made a Profit After Tariff Pause: Report
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) reportedly made a series of bold stock buys last week — right as the markets cratered under President Donald Trump’s tariff threats.
Greene, a vocal MAGA diehard, pounced on some of the market’s worst-hit companies, according to a newly filed financial disclosure seen by CBS News. Among her targets: Dell, Amazon, Lululemon, and RH (formerly Restoration Hardware) — all of which were down nearly 40% when she bought in.
It’s unclear how much Greene spent, since the required three-page report only offers ranges. But the timing is “working out so far” according to CBS News.
Beijing slaps 125% tariffs on U.S. goods in latest U.S.-China trade escalation
BEIJING — China retaliated Friday to higher U.S. tariffs, slapping 125% levies on U.S. goods, but signaled it would apply no further measures in the future.
“If the U.S. continues to increase tariffs on Chinese exports, China will not respond,” China’s Ministry of Finance said in a statement announcing the new levies, in a sign that Chinese authorities see no real upside to any further tit-for-tat measures beyond these.
“Given the current level of tariffs, U.S. goods exported to China are no longer market-viable,” the statement added by way of explanation.

Judge rules Trump can’t get rid of Central Park Five defamation lawsuit
President Donald Trump lost a bid to dismiss a defamation lawsuit brought by plaintiffs known as the Exonerated Five (formerly the Central Park Five). Thursday’s court ruling brings Trump closer to potential civil liability for comments he made about them during a presidential debate against Kamala Harris last year, but it doesn’t guarantee that the plaintiffs will ultimately succeed in their case.
Trump’s history with Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Kevin Richardson, Antron Brown and Korey Wise dates back decades. They were teenagers in 1989 when they were charged with attempted murder, rape and other crimes after a woman named Patricia Meili was attacked while jogging in Manhattan’s Central Park. Before they were indicted, Trump took out a full-page newspaper advertisement — not naming but clearly referring to them — calling to: “BRING BACK THE DEATH PENALTY. BRING BACK OUR POLICE!”
Four of them (not Salaam) confessed, then recanted their confessions and maintained their innocence. They were all convicted of at least some of the charges. Years later, a different person confessed, and their convictions were vacated in 2002.
What to know about Dan Caine, the nation’s newly-confirmed top military adviser
Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. John Dan “Razin” Caine is officially the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after the Senate confirmed him in the middle of the night.
The 60-25 vote happened just after 2 a.m. on Friday before the Senate adjourned for two weeks.
And it came a little over six weeks after President Trump abruptly fired Caine’s predecessor, Air Force Gen. Charles Q. Brown Jr., as part of a larger shakeup at the Pentagon that had many Democrats concerned. Republicans, on the other hand, pushed for Caine to be confirmed quickly.
