Late Sunday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced he appoint head of the group EMILY’s List, Laphonza Butler to replace the late Senator Dianne Feinstein’s senate seat. In California, the governor has the authority to appoint a senator to serve until the next regularly scheduled statewide general election. That means that Butler will serve until the next senator, whom voters will choose in the November.
