Fulton County Hearing in Election Interference Case Abruptly Canceled

The Georgia Court of Appeals on Monday abruptly canceled oral arguments on TFG’s appeal of a state court ruling allowing Fulton County DA Fani T. Willis to continue with her prosecution of the 2020 election interference case against Trump and several allies.

A brief notice was filed Monday by the appellate court stating that a December 5 hearing was “hereby canceled until further order of this Court.” The notice gave no reason for the cancellation and caught many involved by surprise.

A spokesperson for DA Willis declined to comment.

While federal proseutions against TFG are preparing to close out, Willis has implied in the past that she would continue with the state prosecution unless a court blocks her.

  • TFG’s team has been trying to appeal a March 15 order by Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee that they failed to meet the burden of proof that Willis should be disqualified for her relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade.
  • Trump’s lead attorney in Georgia, Steven Sadow, has argued that if Trump won the election, the case would have to be delayed until 2029. “Under the supremacy clause and its duty to the president of the United States, this trial would not take place at all until after he left his term of office,” Sadow said.

If Trump were to be removed from the case, 14 others, including Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani, would be expected to face prosecution.

The Georgia case involves state crimes, meaning Trump can’t pardon his co-defendants. *If* Fani Willis isn’t disqualified by an appeals court, Trump could be severed from the case and the trials of his co-defendants could proceed.
