Home explosion in Sterling, Ohio investigated as a hate crime

Police in Sterling, OH are investigating an early morning explosion at an interracial couple’s home as a possible hate crime. Investigators found racial slurs and a swastika spray painted on the home’s garage and vehicles.

Angela Frase and her husband have lived in the home for 23 years and have never experienced any problems. She told Fox 8 Cleveland that she and her husband are in disbelief that there is so much hate in this country and cannot understand why anyone would target them.

According to Fox 8 Cleveland, the couple was “not at home at the time of the explosion as there was an electrical fire about a month ago in the upstairs of the house. She said the gas line was disconnected after workers remodeling the inside of the home Tuesday thought they smelled gas. The electric was also off.”

The FBI and state fire marshal will help local authorities in their investigation.
