Four tons of marijuana seized in a shipment of jalapeños

At the Otay Mesa cargo facility in San Diego, CA, authorities seized nearly four tons of marijuana in a shipment of jalapeño peppers. The marijuana was valued at approximately $2.3 million dollars.

Otay Mesa Port Director, Rosa Hernandez, said in a statement, “I am proud of the officers for seizing this significant marijuana load. Not only did they prevent the drugs from reaching our community, they also prevented millions of dollars of potential profit from making it into the hands of a transnational criminal organization.”

A canine team alerted U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers when the truck reached the dock. Officers searched the vehicle and “discovered a leafy-green like substance that field-tested positive for the properties of marijuana.”

No information on what charges the 37 year old Mexican man will face.

Two days before this bust, “officers seized more than 10,000 pounds of pot hidden in an auto parts shipment.”
