KTLA reports that David Nicholas Dempsey, 32, is being held in jail without bail for allegedly dousing anti-Trump demonstrators with bear spray at the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday.
In addition to the prohibited use of a tear gas weapon and assault with a caustic chemical, authorities have charged Dempsey with violating his parole. Dempsey has a previous weapons violation conviction.
In California, convicted felons cannot posse pepper spray or other related gas weapons.
Dempsey is scheduled for arraignment in the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Tuesday.
