Three months after the shooting death of Breonna Taylor, a Louisville detective has been fired.
Detective Brett Hankison was notified by letter yesterday that his employment was terminated and effective immediately.
Breonna Taylor was shot eight times in an attempted drug sting that initiated an investigation into the conduct of the officers involved.
Hankison violated standard operating procedure when his “actions displayed an extreme indifference to the value of human life” when he “wantonly and blindly fired ten (10) rounds” into Taylor’s apartment, Schroeder wrote in the letter.
Taylor’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit two months after her March 13 killing. An attorney for the family said that they were encouraged by the news of Hankison’s firing, but were “waiting for the other officers to be held accountable and for additional charges to be filed, but this is a step in the right direction.”
