“Imagine having your pistol tucked inside your waistband and while picking up your dog, a paw gets lodged in the trigger and fires the weapon, sending a bullet into and through your thigh,” the post, shared on Monday, read.
“Well, that happened here in Plano,” police said, using the incident as an opportunity to give gun owners some safety tips.
“If you have a License to Carry, we ask for your safety and the safety of others, be responsible,” the post read, adding a short list of common-sense firearm etiquette examples for gun-carrying Texans — such as “always assume the weapon is loaded,” and “keep your finger off the trigger until the weapon is ready to be fired.”
“Fortunately, it was just a through and through shot — it didn’t hit a main artery or anything,” Plano police officer David Tilley said in a phone interview. “He took himself to the hospital and he’s fine.”
