Jacob Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli or the QAnon Shaman, made his first appearance in a federal court in Phoenix on Monday, appearing telephonically as he is held in quarantine.
The 33-year-old Phoenix native turned himself in to authorities on Saturday morning and is accused of two federal misdemeanors, knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
The public defender explained that Chansley had not eaten since taken into custody, due to a restrictive diet, possibly for religious reasons.
The judge in the case was very concerned, and ordered the public defender to work with the U.S. Marshal’s office regarding the dietary issues.
Chansley’s mother explained that he gets very sick if he doesn’t eat organic food.
