Federal investigators have begun examining communication records of members of Congress and the MAGAts that stormed the Capitol Building on January 6th, 2020. According to a US official briefed on the matter, the investigation will focus on “exploring whether lawmakers wittingly or unwittingly helped the insurrectionists.”
CNN reported, the data gathered thus far includes, “indications of contact with lawmakers in the days around January 6, as well as communications between alleged rioters discussing their associations with members of Congress.”
The investigation does not indicate any wrongdoing nor does it target any specific members of Congress but if “investigators find probable cause that lawmakers or their staffs possibly aided the insurrectionists, they could seek warrants to obtain the content of the communications.”
