A gunman opened fire around 1:30pm inside a Kroger grocery store in Collierville, Tennessee, about 30 miles east of Memphis.
One person was killed and at least 12 injured before the gunman shot himself and died.
Officers flooded the area and went from aisle to aisle and room to room, helping injured victims and escorting employees out of hiding. Some had hidden in freezers and locked offices, Dale Lane, the Collierville police chief, said at a news conference.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, and the Chief did not indicate whether the shooter was an employee of the store. He said the injuries to the victims were “very serious.”
