It’s Sunday and the weekend has come to an end. Below are a few articles and events we might have missed but are worthy of discussion. And in case you missed the Sunday shows, we got you covered. Please feel free to add your own headlines we might have missed.

Where are the workers? Cutoff of jobless aid spurs no influx

Earlier this year, an insistent cry arose from business leaders and Republican governors: Cut off a $300-a-week federal supplement for unemployed Americans. Many people, they argued, would then come off the sidelines and take the millions of jobs that employers were desperate to fill.

Yet three months after half the states began ending that federal payment, there’s been no significant influx of job seekers.

Immigration:

So much for the ‘fullish’ claim that migrants are coming across the border to vote in the next election:

Record 1.7M migrants arrested at border in past year

Over 2,000 migrants march out of southern city in Mexico

Police, immigration agents and National Guard have broken up smaller attempts at similar breakouts earlier this year.

Americans Vaccinated Against Coronavirus Have Lower Mortality Rates — Even From Non-Covid Causes — CDC Says

People who are vaccinated against Covid-19 are less likely to die for any reason — including from non-coronavirus causes — than the unvaccinated, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study released Friday, which researchers framed as more proof of the vaccines’ safety despite stubborn levels of vaccine hesitancy.

All three vaccines approved by U.S. regulators were tied to lower non-Covid death rates, though the difference in mortality among people who took Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine was slightly smaller than for recipients of Pfizer or Moderna’s vaccines.

***The study does not show anything about magical antibody numbers that allegedly prevent one from contracting the deadly virus or keeping them alive thereafter.

Biden’s critics hurl increasingly vulgar taunts

  • On Wednesday, when the president visited Scranton, Pa., he was greeted at the corner of Biden Street by a woman holding a handmade “F— Joe Biden” sign, with an American flag as the vowel in the offending word. And back in Boise, Rod Johnson, a retired gunsmith, has hung a blue flag from the roof of his home that reads “F— Biden.” Underneath, in smaller letters, he added, “And f— you for voting for him!!”
  • “I’m not the only Republican that doesn’t like Biden,” Johnson, 68, said in an interview, sporting a red “Proud White American” hat and puffing a skinny cigar. “I just chose to show it.”

California braces for “bomb cyclone” with flash flooding and dangerous mudslides expected:

The weather is about to get much more intense in California. A massive wall of rain is heading to the northern part of the state, and communities are bracing for flash flooding and dangerous mudslides.

The storm system heading to the West Coast is so ferocious it’s known as a “bomb cyclone,” and it’s helping to drive a river of moisture towards northern California. Massive rainfall and strong winds are on the way. In areas scorched bare by wildfires, flash flooding and mudslides could pose grave danger.

“The water flows off instead of soaking in and it can start picking up pebbles and then rocks, boulders, trees. And it can be severely damaging,” Marty Ralph, an expert on weather and water extremes at the University of California in San Diego, told CBS News.

Spoiler Alert: Ohio didn’t make the list this time around

These 10 states are America’s worst places to live in 2021

  • Even as the pandemic subsides, many companies are allowing their employees to continue working from home.
  • States are increasingly emphasizing their quality of life as they seek to attract business and jobs, but not every state delivers on its promises.
  • The pandemic and the push for social justice are changing the definition of quality of life. CNBC takes those changes into account in the latest America’s Top States for Business study.

Speaking of Ohio, this is pretty cool.
