Retail sales rise faster than expected in October even as inflation pushes prices higher

  • Retail sales rose 1.7% in October, both for all items and excluding autos.
  • Price pressures fueled the spending increase, led by online shopping and gasoline.
  • Inflation has been rising at the fastest pace in 30 years, but consumers don’t appear to be curtailing their purchases

Iowa governor improperly used $450,000 in Covid funds for salaries,audit finds

State Auditor Rob Sand said a review of the state’s payroll system shows the money was used to pay the office staff for Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds.

8 dead, 89 infected after Covid outbreak at Connecticut nursing home

Twenty-two staffers and 67 residents of Geer Village Senior Community have tested positive for Covid since Sept. 30.

All but two of the infected staffers and residents were fully vaccinated. “We are obviously concerned we experienced some level of waning immunity,” the nursing home’s most recent statement said.
