Besides voting to censure Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for doing the right thing, the GQP officially declared the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and events that led to it “legitimate political discourse.” In thei resolution, they also claimed the arrestees were “political prisoners.”

In response to the the GQP’s latest absurdness, the Democratic Party wrote, “The RNC declared the January 6 insurrection ‘legitimate political discourse’ by ‘ordinary citizens.’ The Democratic Party knows that the January 6 insurrection was not legitimate discourse. It was a violent assault on our democracy. This is the choice in 2022, America.”
