On John Oliver’s “Last Week Tonight” on Sunday, much of the episode was devoted to Governor Ron DeSantis, or as Trump has so cleverly nicknamed him, Meatball Ron.
(And Oliver goes into more detail on the apt moniker, calling it stupid and childish but fitting.)
The comedian goes over a lot of Meatball Ron’s extreme tactics in punishing the LGBTQ community, the media, education, voters and more, but the strangest thing involves a dating tactic as described by a former Yale roommate, Charles Finch, in a Financial Times profile:
Apparently Meatball Ron would tell dates he liked Thai food, but pronounced it ‘thigh.’
“If they corrected him,” Finch wrote, “he would find an excuse to leave.”
Finch said DeSantis used this first-date tactic because “he didn’t want a girlfriend who corrected him.”
