DA Fani T. Willis Grants Immunity to Eight Fake Electors in Exchange for Truthful Testimony; Gov. Kemp Signs Bill to Oust ‘Rogue’ Prosecutors

On Friday, prosecutors working in the office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D) told the eight of the 16 Georgia Republicans who convened in December 2020 to declare Trump the winner of the presidential contest that they will not be charged with crimes if they testify truthfully in her sprawling investigation into efforts by Trump, his campaign and his allies to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia. Not only are the fake electors a key target of DA Willis investigation, she’s also investigating TFG’s phone calls to multiple state officials and his campaign’s potential involvement in an unauthorized breach of election equipment in rural Coffee County, Ga.

But, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.

Georgia’s GOP governor, Brian Kemp, just signed into law a bill that will hold attorneys accountable who go “rogue.”  The bill would give a created commission the power to hold district attorney and solicitors-general responsible and uphold their duties, according to Gov. Kemp’s office.

“As hardworking law enforcement officers routinely put their lives on the line to investigate, confront and arrest criminal offenders, I won’t stand idly by as they’re met with resistance from rogue or incompetent prosecutors who refuse to uphold the law,” Gov. Kemp said.

The legislation mentions it goes into effect immediately with the governor’s approval. According to the new law, the commission must be appointed, and set up, and ready to go to work by October 1, 2023.

The bill’s sponsors have not focused on Willis’s investigation of Trump but say they are seeking to rein in reform-minded prosecutors and crack down on crime. They have raised concerns about prosecutors in liberal areas who won’t seek charges against low-level drug offenders or those who violate Georgia’s abortion law banning the procedure at six weeks. Democrats have stated they will challenge the new law in court.

Who will be Trump' running mate?
