With so much going on in our world, we sometimes miss important issues. Please feel free to share any headlines or new developments we may have missed providing they come from reliable and credible sources.  In other words, please do not post any missed headlines form far right ‘news’ sources or regurgitate their Russian propaganda unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation.   We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want. Please do not make any claims that you cannot factually validate or verify.

Two found dead in Rio Grande where Texas’ floating barrier and razor wire sparked federal lawsuit

The discovery of two dead people – one reportedly a child – raises the stakes in the controversy over barriers Texas installed to discourage unlawful crossings

Two people, one reportedly a child, have been found dead in the section of the Rio Grande where Texas has installed oversized buoys to discourage migrants from crossing the border into the United States.

The Mexican foreign affairs secretary said late Wednesday that Texas officials confirmed that a body was found stuck on the buoys installed at Gov. Greg Abbott’s order amid international controversy. The buoys have brought condemnation from President Joe Biden’s administration, which has sued to force Texas to remove them.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador expressed outrage after the discovery of the bodies. “This is inhumane and no person should be treated like this,” he told reporters in his country Thursday.

Bill Barr Trashes Trump’s First Amendment Argument in Jan. 6 Case

Bill Barr expressed a damning view of Donald Trump’s attorney’s arguments that the latest indictment of the former president—this time in relation to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election—constituted an “attack on free speech.” “They’re not attacking his First Amendment right, he can say whatever he wants,” the former Trump administration attorney general told Kaitlan Collins in a CNN interview Wednesday. “He can even lie. He can even tell people that the election was stolen when he knew better. But that does not protect you from entering into a conspiracy. All conspiracies involve speech and all fraud involves speech, so you know, free speech doesn’t give you the right to engage in a fraudulent conspiracy.”

Documents in failed Hunter Biden plea agreement made public

The court filing revealed more detail about tax and gun charges against the president’s son.

The plea agreement that blew up last week during Hunter Biden’s court appearance was made public Wednesday, revealing new information about the tax and gun charges involving the president‘s son.

The documents, which U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika made public at the request of NBC News, provide detailed accounts of the cases surrounding the criminal charges, with fact sets that were agreed to by Biden’s lawyers and federal prosecutors in Delaware.

The plea deal called for Biden to plead guilty to two counts of failing to pay his taxes in return for prosecutors recommending a sentence of probation. A separate gun charge for illegally owning a Colt Cobra .38 Special handgun would have been dropped in two years if Biden honored the terms of what’s known as a diversion agreement.

House GOP worries that hardliners actually want a shutdown

Speaker Kevin McCarthy insists Congress will avoid a government shutdown in the fall. But some members of his right flank seem to be embracing that outcome.

The entire GOP was listening closely when ultra-conservative Virginia Rep. Bob Good mused last week that if the government shuttered briefly this fall, “most Americans won’t even miss” it.

And when Good and his House Freedom Caucus colleagues helped derail one of the party’s spending bills just days later, Republicans grew more nervous that he was serious about his barely veiled threat.
