With so much going on in our world, we sometimes miss important issues. Please feel free to share any headlines or new developments we may have missed providing they come from reliable and credible sources. In other words, please do not post any missed headlines form far right ‘news’ sources or regurgitate their Russian propaganda unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation. We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want. Please do not make any claims that you cannot factually validate or verify.
Several items of interest regarding COVID-19, the booster and costs associated with it, and some stats that cannot be ignored.
Today’s right-wing conservatives have recently adopted a dangerous strain of inflammatory anti-vaccine rhetoric, according to scientist and vaccine expert Dr. Peter Hotez, who joins The New Abnormal this week to discuss his new book on the subject, The Deadly Rise of Anti-Science.
And he says there’s plenty of research to suggest that the vaccine hesitancy born of far-right conspiracies is at least in part responsible for the unique trajectory of American COVID-19 deaths throughout the past three-plus years, something he addresses at length in his book.
An updated COVID-19 vaccine, reformulated to target a primary variant of the virus, is becoming available at pharmacies around the country.
Why it matters: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months and older get the updated vaccine.
Will my insurance cover it?
Most insurance plans will cover the COVID-19 vaccine at no cost, the CDC said.
- This is the first updated COVID vaccine since the U.S. ended its public health emergency earlier this year, which ended most government programs to purchase and distribute the shots.
- Under the Affordable Care Act, most commercial health plans must cover immunizations. Medicare and Medicaid will also cover the shots.
TFG and His Criminal Cartel’s Growing Legal Woes:
Rudy Giuliani’s former lawyer filed a lawsuit in New York today seeking $1,360,196.10 in unpaid legal fees.
The firm of Davidoff, Hutcher & Citron LLP and Robert Costello say they represented Rudy in a variety of legal cases from November 2019 to July 2023, including the J6 investigation and the Georgia case. They are dropping him as a client because he hasn’t paid his bills. They alleged that he has only paid $214,000 of a $1.57 million balance.
The Worst, Stupidest, and Most Deplorable People in the World:
A Congressional game of Clue began on Tuesday afternoon. On a baby-changing station in a bathroom under the House floor, an unknown culprit left a draft resolution put forward by Republican Matt Gaetz to declare the position of Speaker of the House as vacant — removing the troubled Kevin McCarthy as the leader of the body’s divided Republican caucus.
The discarded draft, first reported by independent journalist Matt Laslo, looks to be from September 15 — three days after Gaetz threatened to vote to remove McCarthy.
