Trump Shares Birther Attack on Nikki Haley

On Truth Social, Trump shared a screenshot of a tweet that promoted a Gateway Pundit attack, one that suggested Nikki Haley isn’t eligible to become president based on citizenship.

The claim:

“In Nikki Haley’s situation, reports indicate that her parents were not U.S. Citizens at the time of her birth in 1972. Based on the Consitution as interpreted by Paul Ingrassia, this disqualifies Haley from the presidential or vice-presidential candidacy under the 12th Amendment.”

Sad.

The claim from the Gateway Pundit was relying on the legal analysis of lawyer Paul Ingrassia, one of Trump’s most reposted MAGA scholars.

According to Meidas Touch Network, Ingrassia has a history of problematic social media posts defending the Confederate flag and wanting descendants of enslaved people to pay reparation to descendants of those who enslaved them. Ingrassia also argued that white people are the most capable of appreciating western civilization.

Nikki Haley was born in South Carolina

Born to Punjabi Sikh immigrants who’d settled in South Carolina, Haley was born Nimarata Nikki Randhawa. She speaks and writes often about the awkwardness of growing up as one of very few kids who were neither white nor Black in her area at a time when South Carolina life was thoroughly organized around that racial binary.
