With so much going on in our world, we sometimes miss important issues. Please feel free to share any headlines or new developments we may have missed providing they come from reliable and credible sources.  In other words, please do not post any missed headlines form far right ‘news’ sources or regurgitate their Russian propaganda unless you’re trying to point out that the far-right extremist in our country and elsewhere actually believe their own BS or Russian disinformation.   The same applies to what is currently happening in Israel. We also ask that you provide a link to your source so folks can read it if they want. Please do not make any claims that you cannot factually validate or verify.

Updates:

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was taken to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Sunday afternoon following symptoms of an “emergent bladder issue,” according to the Pentagon. He has since transferred his duties to his deputy.

“Today, at approximately 2:20 pm, Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III was transported by his security detail to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to be seen for symptoms suggesting an emergent bladder issue,” Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said in a statement Sunday afternoon.

In a statement late Sunday night, Walter Reed officials said that Austin was admitted to a critical care unit of the hospital “after a series of tests and evaluations.”

“At this time, it is not clear how long Secretary Austin will remain hospitalized,” Walter Reed’s statement read. “The current bladder issue is not expected to change his anticipated full recovery. His cancer prognosis remains excellent. Updates on the Secretary’s condition will be provided as soon as possible.”

Sen. Tim Scott rises to the top of Trump’s ‘veepstakes’

Former President Donald Trump and his allies have been impressed by the South Carolina Republican’s role speaking on his behalf — and one ally said it’s “a real possibility” he’s picked.

Sen. Tim Scott is quickly rising up the ranks of contenders to be Donald Trump’s running mate, and a Trump ally who’s spoken with both men about the matter now says it’s “a real possibility” that the senator is tapped.

“It’s real,” this person said. “And he’d take the job in a second.”

California’s US Senate candidates debate Monday night as race remains tight

Participating will be front-runner Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Burbank, and Reps. Katie Porter, D-Irvine; Barbara Lee, D-Oakland and Republican Steve Garvey, the former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres first baseman.

The top two finishers in the March 5 primary will compete in November’s general election. They are vying to finish the term of the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein, which runs through next January, as well as a full six year term. Feinstein died in September, and Sen. Laphonza Butler, D-Calif., was appointed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to the seat. Schiff has led recent polls. In the California Elections and Policy Poll, he had support from 25% of likely voters. Trailing were Porter and Garvey, each with 15%. Lee had 7%.

Ohio’s ‘Finest:’

Two fired FirstEnergy Corp. executives were indicted Monday in the long-running investigation into a $60 million bribery scheme in Ohio that has already resulted in a 20-year prison sentence for a former state House speaker.

Former FirstEnergy CEO Chuck Jones and former Senior Vice President Michael Dowling were charged in relation to their roles in the massive corruption case, Republican Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced in an online news conference.

“Their actions over a period of years have undermined confidence in state governments, the rule of law, and very nearly made them even richer men than they already are,” Yost said of Jones and Dowling, who are facing criminal charges for the first time since the scandal began. “There can be no justice without holding the check writers and the masterminds accountable.”
