Although Rep. Ken Buck announced he will not seek re-election, he has now announced he will leave the GQP Clown House by the end of next week:
Buck represents Colorado’s 4th district, where Lauren Boebert has recently moved to run for his vacated seat. This may move up her time frame though from the current Republican primary scheduled for June 25.
This move by Buck also reduces the House majority at a critical time by yet another seat, following the departures of Kevin McCarthy and the expulsion of George Santos, who was replaced by a Democrat in the NY special election.
Colo. Rev. Stat. § 31-10-108 states:
Colo. Rev. Stat. § 31-10-108 (“Special elections shall be held on any Tuesday designated by ordinance or resolution of the governing body. No special election shall be held within the ninety days preceding a regular election. No special election shall be called within sixty days before the date thereof, nor shall any special election be held within the thirty-two days before or after the date of a primary, general, or congressional vacancy election. A special”)
Based on the statute, Colorado could hold a special election soon, like within the next month, to fill Rep. Buck’s seat because the state’s primary is June 25, 2024.
