Comedian Ricky Gervais unapologetically roasted Hollywood in his last year as host of the Golden Globe Awards.
He called out stars for being friends with Jeffrey Epstein.
“I know he’s your friend but I don’t care,” he said. “You had to make your own way here in your own plane, didn’t you?”
He called out actors who were vocal about their causes they advocated, but not the companies that pay them.
“Apple roared into the TV game with ‘The Morning Show,’ a superb drama about the importance of dignity and doing the right thing, made by a company that runs sweatshops in China,” he said, with Apple CEO Tim Cook in attendance. “Well, you say you’re woke but the companies you work for in China — unbelievable. Apple, Amazon, Disney. If ISIS started a streaming service you’d call your agent, wouldn’t you?”
Urging the stars not make their acceptance speeches political, he suggested they are in no position to lecture the public.
“You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”
Michelle Williams did not take his advice, and gave a rousing pro-choice speech while accepting her award.
After the show, Gervais tweeted his thanks and took a subtle dig at Trump’s politics, suggesting to “Make Jokes, Not War.”
