Barack Obama made his first appearance alongside Joe Biden for a virtual fundraiser on Tuesday, chalking up Biden’s largest single event fundraiser so far, more than $11 million in donations. The campaign collected $7.6 million from 175,000 grassroots supporters, while private high dollar donors contributed more than $3.4 million. The Democratic party and Biden outraised Trump for the first time in May, but the Trump bank is deep with $265 million in cash.
Obama promised “help is on the way” to help defeat the “shambolic” and “mean-spirited” Trump approach to government.
Obama warned Democrats not to be smug or complacent while Biden is leading Trump in the polls, saying “just because this energy is out there does not mean that it assures our victory and it does not mean that it gets channeled in a way that results in real change. There’s a backlash, that is fierce, against change.”
Trump blathered about the event.
“Don’t forget I am only here because of him and Biden,” Trump said. “I’m only here because of them, because if they did a good job we wouldn’t have been here, there would have been no reason.”‘
