Michigan GOP Removes Cynthia Johnson From Committee Posts Over Alleged Threats

Republican House leaders removed Democratic Rep Cynthia Johnson (Detroit) from her committee assignments on the heels of alleged threats she made in a Facebook post.

The statement was a response to Facebook videos that Johnson posted in her response to racially disparaging threats of violence she received to her voicemail.

EDIT: Two videos on Johnson’s Facebook page have been removed and are no longer visible. While there are still snippets of those videos up on Twitter, I am not going to post the videos in their edited, short version that lacks context.

“So, this is just a warning to you Trumpers. Be careful. Walk lightly. We ain’t playing with you. Enough of the shenanigans. Enough is enough,” Johnson states in the video

“And for those of you who are soldiers, you know how to do it. Do it right. Be in order. Make them pay. I love y’all.”

The last few seconds of the video have received considerable attention on social media, and were specifically cited in a news  release Wednesday from the Michigan Republican Party. But in the same video, Johnson also calls on supporters to “hit ’em in their pocketbooks” and thanks people for “doing things right and in order.”

Johnson received numerous calls to her private cell phone number from many states across the country. She posted several screen shots of the call log. She posted several audio clips of threatening voicemails, such as this one.

The threats were a response to Johnson’s participation as a City of Detroit representative in the disgraceful circus-like hearing the Michigan GOP allowed of Rudy Giuliani and his merry band of poll challengers and Dominion voting machine contract workers (see Mellissa Carone). Johnson’s apparent wrongdoing was to call for the witnesses to be under oath.

The Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, a Democrat, issued a statement Wednesday night.
