At the Steak Fry in Iowa, former VP and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden went off on Fox ‘News’ reporter Peter Doocy who asked him if he ever spoke to his son, Hunter, about his business dealings.
“Here’s what I know. I know Trump deserves to be investigated. You should be asking him the question. “
“Why is he on the phone with a foreign leader, trying to intimidate a foreign leader, if that’s what happened.”
“You should be looking at Trump. He’s using the abuse of power and every element of the presidency to try and do something to smear me.
“This appears to be an overwhelming abuse of power.”
Right Wing World has claimed repeatedly that when Biden was VP, he demanded “Ukraine fire a prosecutor who was investigating a natural gas company owned by a Ukrainian oligarch, whose board members included Biden’s son, Hunter. No evidence has emerged that Biden was acting to protect his son.“
On MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, New York Times reporter Ken Vogel suggested there could be a story behind this if Rudy Giuliani “would get out of the way and let it happen.”
But the allegations against Biden have been pretty thoroughly debunked, over and over again, and the story Vogel published in May — which says right in the title that it is being pushed out by ‘Trump and Allies’ — says “No evidence has surfaced that the former vice president intentionally tried to help his son by pressing for the prosecutor general’s dismissal.”
Trump has repeated this claim; once during an interview with Fox “News” and at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
“Look at Joe Biden … he calls them [Ukrainian government leaders] and says, ‘Don’t you dare prosecute. If you don’t fire this prosecutor’ — the prosecutor was after his son —then he said, ‘If you fire the prosecutor, you’ll be okay. And if you don’t fire the prosecutor, we’re not giving you $2 billion in loan guarantees,’ or whatever he was supposed to give. Can you imagine if I did that?” (Fox News interview)
WaPo:
Of course, Trump wasted no time capitalizing and fundraising off Ken Vogel’s resurrection of the Joe Biden/Hunter Biden, debunked Ukrainian ‘scandal.’
Later today, the Biden campaign will issue a memo informing voters that Biden’s alleged demands that Ukrainian officials fire a prosecutor who was investigating a gas company with ties to his son are simply not true.
