Shortly after Democratic House members announced two Articles of Impeachment, Trump met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. The White House did not allow the press to attend the meeting.
Allegedly, Trump told Mr. Lavrov not to meddle in our 2020 election like they did in 2016.
According to the White House read-out of the meeting Trump “warned against any Russian attempts to interfere in United States elections and urged Russia to resolve the conflict with Ukraine.”
Later in the day, Lavrov held his own press conference. He acknowledged that he met with Trump and they did discuss election interference. However, the Russian official’s account seemed to indicate that he was the one who brought up the issue.
